Project: "Means to an End"

Mindtaker Pictures' first 30 minute serious film, Means to an End (a modern rendition of the Book of Job) is nearly completed. It was shot over Christmas break this year and edited over the next few months. At this point in time, it is essentially finished with only minor sound editing left to complete.

The ultimate goal of this film is essentially the goal of it's source material, the get people to think about why bad things happen to good people, or why evil exists in our world. Hopefully it's interpretable to a wide audience, and interesting even to those who don't usually care for the Bible.

Fundamentally, this is a pretty sad and serious film, with a few laughs in the right places. I will post the outcomes of various film festivals we submit Means to an End to when we start getting feedback. Right now we are finalizing entry forms for the God on Film Festical in New York next month, and looking for any other garmain festivals to, well, whore ourselves out to.

Maybe some production stills will be in order, but for right now, I need to get back to studying. Anyone with any interest in Means to an End is more than welcome to e-mail me.

Side Project: "Average Dei"

Over the weekend, myself and Chris (another film student) took part in the 24-hour "Red Eye" Film Festival, and made a 10-minute film called Average Dei. It was based on a short story written by a girl here. The basic gist is that there's a guy who has a terrible day... and loves it. He burns his toast and drops too much sugar in his coffe, but just relishes his breakfast. He goes to a terrible little desk job and enjoys the whole day. However the next day, he wakes up to find it is a bright beautiful day. He hates it. His toast is perfect, his coffe is just right, but he can't even stomach his breakfast. At work his boss calls him in to give his a promotion and an office with a window. He yells at his boss and runs out of the office, then all the way home. He desperately tries to no avail to burn toast, so he gives up and goes to sleep. The weather report says it will be another rainy day the next day, and out hero falls asleep with a smile on his face.

After having completed this one in 24 hours, I definitely came to appreciate the relatively slow pace we take on our main projects. I think with more time I could have told the story better, but I really think the music did a good job of conveying the feeling of it. It was a pleasure working with Chris and Andrew (his room mate) on matters of editing and music.

Production stills to come, just stick around for them if you're really that interested.

Brand New Blog

Eschewing the accepted norms of Xanga and that dusty old Open Diary (of which I was ashamedly a part of in years past), I have decided to start a blog... not as some angsty young adult looking for acceptance in the vast openness of the interweb, but more as an independant filmmaker chronicling his attempts at starting a career in the film industry (rock on, that was a long sentence).

So jot down the name Mindtaker Pictures, and watch for that name to pop up in area film festivals, you might just like what you see. And if you don't, then I hope you don't work for any major studios.

So anyway, hello and welcome. I'll try not to make this thing too annoying, but quite frankly, you're reading this of your own accord, please quit whenever you like.
